Wisemenship, Inc. Mission
Wisemenship, Inc. is the major organizational head (Non-Profit) that provides directional guidance and manages the Manhood Candidate School. Its mission is to provide biblically-based pastoral counseling to young African American (black) boys and young men and their families for spiritual guidance that revolves around the whole man concept. It is designed to assist African American Young Men during their formative years between the ages of 14 to 21 (The Seven Year Stretch) with discovering their career dreams, goals, and potential. It provides long-term one-on-one mentorship through several resources to continuously guide young men through their developmental process of manhood. This is accomplished through the African American Rites of Passage ritual that presents young men with specific skill sets to manage everyday life challenges that are complicated by systemic racism in American society. This training is intended to generate the best possible mindset for these young men to grow and prosper in a Christian context in spite of these challenges. Such growth signals to both the young men themselves and to their community that they are ready to take on the responsibilities and privileges of mature manhood and to become responsible citizens.
Scripture says: “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6 Today, we live in an age of information and we have so much of it. Within this age of information, there is a lack of wisdom. Technology bombards all of us with information, some good and some bad. As our youth grow, they are exposed to numerous voices from their teachers, parents, bosses, friends, websites, and TV. The problem is to discern the best advice. The above-mentioned scripture is conveying that a child should be trained from the first in the right way or path. This path should be a path of obedience and faith during their tender years as soon as they can receive instruction. The concern here is to season his/her mind with principles of virtue well before they are exposed to other thoughts or impressions of thought that may have the potential to damage them. Once received, this instruction will grow up with him or her, and it will not forsake them. This instruction will provide wisdom that will guide them for their later years of life. Proverbs presents two ways to live one’s life (Prov 2:4). One is wise, and lived in obedience to God. This is the righteous way. The other way is foolish. It’s lived in obedience to one’s whims and the way of wickedness.
