The military-oriented, faith-based Manhood Candidate School is developed and instituted for the main purpose of manhood instruction through the tradition of a rite of passage program (curriculum) that reinvests in our African American Young Men, their heritage, culture, mentorship, and identity that has been stripped away and destroyed due to the intervention of slavery. This curriculum will become a standardized theological form of training throughout our communities to better ensure their success against oppressive influences and lead to better choices, reinforcing their virtues, moral approaches, and liberating visions. This requires the African-American community to embrace liberation theologies and practices more wholeheartedly with an understanding that focuses on moral formation and social transformation. A laser focus on the development of our youth is required to cultivate and produce the type of resistance required in 21st-century America that will benefit the entire African-American community, inclusive of men, women, and children. The Manhood Candidate School provides a platform and venue to carry on and maintain the spirit of the Black Resistance movement. It is a response to the need to affect the required change within the African-American community, to overcome today’s forms of oppression that rob and destroy the hopes, dreams, and promising potential of African-American Young Men.
